The Army Museum of Tasmania is holding its Memorabilia Day at Anglesea Barracks 10am-3pm on Saturday, July 15.
Museum manager Major Chris Talbot joins Dave and explains the day is open to all Tasmanians who want to begin the journey of researching their family’s military history.
Major Talbot says the Museum will accept all memorabilia, but NOT firearms, ammunition or edged weapons.
Recently, the Museum received a major donation from the Youl family from the Midlands.
The collection is a treasure chest of Tasmanian history, including the WWI Military Cross won by Colonel Geoffrey Youl of Lealands in the Evandale-Perth area.
The collection includes Colonel Youl’s WW1 service medals, plus two mentioned in despatches. He also served in WW2, so we now have his WW2 medals, the Edward VI Coronation Medal and Belgian Croix De Guerre.
