How to Pack a Shoe Box for Operation Christmas Child

  1. Shoe Box: Decorate an empty medium-size shoe box, ensuring lid is wrapped separately (no bigger than A4 size)
  2. Boy or Girl?: Choose the gender and age category of the child to receive your gift: 2-4 yrs; 5-9 yrs; 10-14 yrs. Cut out the boy/girl age label from a brochure or download it from the website www.samaritanspurse.org.au/occ and stick it on the box lid.
  3. Fill with Gifts: Fill the box right to the top, with a variety of newly bought or home made gifts, ensuring you remove all unnecessary packing. Use the following six categories as a guide:
  • Something to love - Soft toy, teddy bear, doll
  • Something for school - Exercise book, pencil case, pens, pencils, sharpener, eraser etc.
  • Something to wear- t-shirt, shorts, sandals, thongs, cap, beanie etc
  • Something to play with - Tennis ball, toy car, skipping rope, marbles, yoyo, finger puppet, slinky, musical instrument, wind-up torch etc. (no battery operated items)
  • Something for personal hygiene - Soap, toothbrush, facewasher, comb, hairbrush, hair clips/bands, scrunchie etc. (no liquids)
  • Something special - Carry bag, bangles, necklaces, sunglasses, stickers, craft kits, note from or photo of yourself. etc.

Please do NOT include:

  • Used or damaged goods
  • Items that leak or melt (incl. toothpaste, bubbles, candles, plasticine, batteries etc)
  • Breakable items (incl. glass, mirrors, porcelain dolls etc)
  • Any food or lollies
  • Items that could scare or harm a child (incl. toy guns/knives, war-related toys etc)
  • Any gambling-related items (incl. play money, playing cards, dice, dominoes)
  • Anything of a religious, racial or political nature.

If you’re packing more than one box, make a combined donation of one total amount.           

Place your donation and receipt details in an envelope INSIDE the box on top of gifts  OR Donate online instead www.samaritanspurse.org.au

  1. Include your Donation: Using the Donation Envelope tear-off from the brochure, enclose a tax deductible donation of $8 per box to help cover the costs of the project, (incl. shipping).
  2. Secure the box with a rubber band

6.      Drop off your box at your nearest Drop-Off Centre before October 25
